Listed below are scholarships, awards, and prizes offered by the Faculty of Asian Studies. The Basham Prize
Awarded to the undergraduate student who, in that year, was enrolled in a course leading to the award of the Degree of Bachelor offered by the Faculty of Asian Studies and has achieved the best results in the Centre for Asian Societies and Histories courses offered in first year. Presently - Individual and Society in Asia A / B.

Richard B. Davis Prize for Thai
Awarded to the student enrolled in a course leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Asian Studies or Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist) who was enrolled in and achieved the best overall average mark for courses taken in third year Thai.

The Australian Federation of University Women - ACT Prize
Awarded to the most outstanding woman student completing, in that year, the program for a degree of Bachelor with Honours offered by the Faculty of Asian Studies and who achieved First Class Honours in Asian Studies.

Anthony Reid Prize in Asian Studies
Awarded each year to the student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma or Master degree in Southeast Asian Studies, for the best overall result in the completed coursework component common to the Grad Dip and Master degree program.

Klestadt Prize for Japanese
A prize to the value of $1500 awarded to the student who has completed the requirements for the award of a pass degree in the University and has achieved averaged results in his or her four most advanced Japanese language courses judged superior to other candidates.

The Naoki Matsumoto Consultancy Prize for Japanese and Political Science
Awarded annually to the student who (having met degree enrolment and completion requirements) has achieved the best performance amongst students taking both a later year course in Political Science or International Relations offered by the Faculty of Arts AND Japanese Language courses offered by the Faculty of Asian Studies, taken as a Major. The prize is valued at $500.00 and may be shared by equally deserving candidates.

Ann Bates Prize for Indonesian Studies
Awarded annually at two levels. In each case $1000.00 to the best completed Honours thesis in the Faculty of Asian Studies and the best competed PhD thesis from any location in the ANU, in both cases dealing with Indonesia. The Director of the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies is the sponsor for the PhD prize deliberations. The Dean of Asian Studies is the sponsor for Honours level prize deliberations - winners of which are indicated below:

Scholarship in Chinese Studies
Professor Liu Ts'un-yan has endowed a scholarships for students entering Chinese language studies in the Faculty.

Sir Geoffrey Yeend Honours Scholarship
Up to two Sir Geoffrey Yeend Honours Scholarships offered every year in several disciplinary areas including Asian Studies. The scholarships are valued at $5,000 each. Asian Studies applicants should be eligible to enrol in the Honours Year degree program in either the first or second term and remain a full-time student while holding the scholarship. International students are eligible to apply for a Sir Geoffrey Yeend Honours Scholarship.

ANU Study Abroad Scholarship
All students taking the Year in Asia or the Arab Word as part of their specialist degree program are eligible for financial support. This may be in the form of an ANU Study Abroad scholarship, designed to help students meet travel and living expenses. Currently the value of the ANU Study Abroad scholarship is $1000. Alternatively, depending on circumstances, students may receive support from the Australian government's University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific program or a range of sponsorships from Asian governments and foundations.
ANU Summer Research Scholarships
A Summer Research Scholarship with the Faculty of Asian Studies at the Australian National University is an exceptional research opportunity; giving you insight into what Honours or studying for a higher research degree is all about, with leading scholars in your field. The Scholarship provides an opportunity to undertake a short research project in Asian Studies and offers full board at the University College as well as a weekly allowance for up to 12 weeks of the program's duration. More information about the program may be obtained from the Graduate School.
