Where is the scanner?
In room E4.14, on the left as you go in. If the door is locked ask a Centre Administrator to let you in.
How do I use it?
- log on to the PC connected to the scanner with your ASIA domain username and password.
- open GIMP, at \Start\Programs\GIMP (this may be fairly slow to load the first time).
- choose File\Acquire\Twain..., then the scanner.
- this will invoke the scanner. Go on from there.
Help?
There's comprehensive help in the GIMP program itself, and online at the Gimp tutorials
Where can I save my scanned file?
- on to the local machine, where it can be copied to a disk or a Flash drive
- on to your H: drive (network share), from where it can be opened on your own PC.
How can I edit the image I've saved?
Use GIMP.
Can I turn the image of a scanned text document into text?
Yes. Use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) function. Push the appropriate button on the scanner. For short documents it will be easier to type the text yourself.
