ANU hosts Australia's first dedicated undergraduate Pacific Studies program. Coordinated through Learning Oceania, a network of scholars, students and staff, this program includes a Pacific Studies major as well as a range of courses open to undergraduate and graduate students. This program has been developed in response to the urgent and growing demand for students of Pacific Studies throughout Australia and the region. Today Australia is fully engaged in the Pacific through aid, policy-making, the federal police and military support, business, education, tourism, trade, kinship and cultural exchanges. A strong foundation in transdisciplinary Pacific Studies can lead to exciting careers in many areas, including:

- The Pacific region is home to nearly one-quarter of the world's languages. The Department of Linguistics in ANU's Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies is a world leader in research on these languages, including Pacific pidgins.
