Language Laboratory
Faculty of Asian Studies, The Australian National University
The Language Laboratory uses digitised audio and AV material, no longer cassette tapes. To use the Language Laboratory you must first upload your files to the server there. Before you can do this you have to be given an account on the server.
How do I get an account on the server?
Email me Greg.Young@anu.edu.au with your u number and the identifying number of the course you will be teaching. The number will be of the form ABCD1234. CHIN1020, for example, is the number for Modern Chinese 1. I will create an account on the server for you; without this you will not be able to connect to it.
How do upload files to the server?
- open the share (directory where you want to put your files) on the server
- drag-and-drop your files into the share
How do I open the share on a PC?
- right-click on My Network Places
- choose Map Network Drive...
- in the Folder: box, type: \\ic.anu.edu.au\langlab$
- choose Connect using a different user name
- in the Connect as box that appears, type ic\unnnnnnn where nnnnnnn is your ANU ID
- in the Password box type your ANU password
- click OK then Finish
How do I open the share on a Mac?
- Go
- Open server
smb://icmedia01.anu.edu.au/content$- u number and ANU password
How do I then put my files on the server?
Drag them from your local copy into the appropriate directory on the Language Laboratory share you have opened.
I've lost the share. Where did it go?
Have a look under My Computer. Shares are represented there as network drives. These may be clicked to open. If your Language Laboratory share is not there you will have to reconnect to it.
None of this worked. Why not?
If your PC is a member of the ASIA domain you will not be able to connect to the Language Laboratory server. Only computers in the DISAN domain can connect. This is an ANU networking issue; the Faculty's computers are being moved progressively to the DISAN domain.
How do I get help about the server?
If there is a problem log a job with the Division of Information Helpdesk
- by phone on 59666
- or on the DOI HelpDesk webpage.
