Dr Supomo [MA (Gadjah Mada), PhD (ANU); Visiting Fellow and formerly Reader with the Southeast Asia Centre is a specialist in Old Javanese language and literature. He also has research interest in the historiography of early Indonesia.
His publications include: Arjunawijaya: A kakawin of mpu Tantular (The Hague, 1977); Bhåratayuddha: An Old Javanese poem and its Indian sources (New Delhi, 1993); ‘The sovereignty of beauty: Classical Javanese writings’, in: Ann Kumar and John H.MacGlynn (eds.), Illuminations: The writing traditions of Indonesia (Jakarta/New York, 1996); 'From Sakti to Shahada: The quest for new meanings in a changing world order', in: Peter G, Riddell and Tony Street (eds), Islam: Essays on scripture, thought and society (Leiden/New York, 1997).
He is currently working with Professor Peter Worsley on the twelfth century Old Javanese poem Sumanåsåntaka and other Old Javanese works.
