Dr Jennifer Lindsay

Jennifer Lindsay BA (Victoria University, Wellington), MA (Cornell, USA), PhD (University of Sydney) has worked as a diplomat, arts administrator, foundation program officer, and academic. Prior to taking up her Visiting Fellowship at ANU, she was Senior Visiting Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore and was teaching in the Department of Southeast Asian Studies. She writes on cultural policy and performance in Southeast Asia; language, media and performance in Indonesia; translation, and interrelationships between all of these. Her edited volume Between Tongues: Translation and/of/in Performance in Asia was published by Singapore University Press in 2006. She translates from Indonesian into English, and has published two collections of her weekly translations (for Tempo magazine) of Goenawan Mohamad’s essays. In 2007 she was Visiting Research Fellow at IIAS and KITLV Leiden, pursuing research on her book project on performance and politics in Indonesia. Over 2008-9 she is leading an international collaborative research project on Indonesian Cultural History 1950-1965 supported by the KITLV and the Australia Netherlands Research Collaboration workshop grant scheme.
