Dr Song Geng [BA Beijing Foreign Studies; PhD HK] received his PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Hong Kong in 2000 and was assistant professor of Chinese at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore during 2001-2006.

Dr Song is currently the convenor of the cross-University graduate program on gender, sexuality and culture. He runs courses on gender and sexuality in Chinese culture, classical and modern Chinese literature and popular culture in China.

His research interests focus on three interrelated areas of concerns: a) Re-readings of the canon of romantic love in pre-modern Chinese literature (esp. the late imperial period) from a theoretically informed and comparative perspective, with the aim of deconstructing the discourse of love as a modern appropriation; b) Research on contemporary Chinese masculinities, esp. the representation of manhood in popular culture, as a hybrid discourse in a globalizing China; c) Cultural studies in China in the context of nationalism and globalization.
