Dr Diller [BA(WilliamsColl); MA(JohnsH); PhD(Cornell), FAHA; Emeritus Reader and Visiting Fellow with the Southeast Asia Centre] is a Thai language and linguistics specialist. He is Foundation Director of the National Thai Studies Centre, located at the ANU, and serves on the Centre's management board. He is Consulting Editor for the journals Written Language and Literacy and Mon-Khmer Studies, and has contributed 'Thai' entries to standard reference works such as the International Encyclopedia of Linguistics, ed. W. Frawley (second edition, Oxford, 2002) and The World's Writing Systems, ed. W. Bright, (Oxford, 1996). As a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, he has assisted the Academy in nationwide survey work. He has also developed ( in collaboration with other ANU staff) computer software for Thai language learning, including an award-winning CD-ROM 'Learning Thai Script'.
