Dr Vervoorn [BA, MA(Cant.); BA(Asian Studies), PhD (ANU); Reader, Centre of Asian Societies and Histories has worked at a senior level for the Australian Government, undertaking research and policy development on human rights, higher education, and science and technology issues. For a number of years he was in the Research School of Social Sciences. He currently specializes in Chinese social and intellectual history, and global issues relating to the evolution and interaction of knowledge systems.
He teaches the courses Knowledge and Society, Technology, Innovation and Society, and Chinese Foundations of Civilisation.
His publications include ReOrient: Change in Asian Societies (3rd ed., Melb.,2006) and Men of the Cliffs and Caves (Hong Kong, 1990), a study in Chinese intellectual history, as well as books on education in Australia and mountain/environment themes. Currently he is working on a book on knowledge systems in global society.
