Where is the camera?
Ask Greg. Email: Greg.Young@anu.edu.au
Is there a manual?
See: http://www.anu.edu.au/asianstudies/camera/pro70_camera_manual.pdf
Where can the images be downloaded from the camera?
Use the multimedia computer in room E4.14. It's the one on the left as you go in. If the door is locked ask a Centre Administrator to let you in.
How do I log on to the computer to do the download?
Log on to the multimedia PC with your ASIA domain username and password.
How do I download images from the camera?
There's two ways:
- browse the images as files
- On the bottom of the camera, unscrew the large black screw holding the cover to the camera.
- Open the side panel of camera next to the "+" button.
- Turn down the red lock bar.
- Lift up and depress the grey lever.
- Remove the Compact Flash card.
- Insert the card the right way up into the card reader connected to the computer.
- Open F: drive, which is labelled CANON_CIFF.
- Browse through the folders and find the relevant images. The menu option "view/thumbnails" may be useful for this.
- Copy the files you want to a folder on the desktop, your H:\ drive, or to a Flash drive.
- When you have finished, replace the compact Flash card in the camera, taking care to put it in the right way up. Turn down the grey tab. Turn up the red bar across the grey tabs. Close the black Compact Flash bay door. Replace the black cover on the camera. Screw in the large black screw.
- import images from the camera directly
- Open the black rubber cover on the camera below the mode selection dial.
- Connect the thin white cable from the back of the computer to the Digital port on the camera.
- Turn the mode selection dial from "L" to "PC".
- Open GIMP, at \Start\Programs\GIMP, GIMP may be fairly slow to load the first time.
- Choose File\Acquire\Twain..., .
- Choose "Canon Digital Camera" and click "Select". This will open the dialogue box for importing images.
- In box "browse", click "Camera" to see the images.
- Select an image and click "Acquire".
- Close the dialog box when you have finished aquiring images.
- When you have finished acquiring images return the mode selection dial from "PC" to "L" and disconnect the white cable from the camera.
- Save each of the open images before closing them.
None of these actions require any force at all. If one of the doors or tabs doesn't close, try again gently. Do not force any tabs or doors shut.
Where can I get help?
There's comprehensive help in the GIMP program itself, and online at the Gimp tutorials
Where can I save my scanned file?
You can save onto the local computer. From the local computer the folder can be copied to a disk or a Flash drive or burnt to a CD.
Or you can save your images onto your H: drive (network share), from where they can be opened on your own PC.
How can I edit the image?
Use GIMP. GIMP is an image-manipulation program like Adobe Photoshop. There's a copy of GIMP on the multimedia PC.
